Of Perseverance and Hard Work (Part 2 of 2)
Jett Galindo has always had a love for audio. She grew up surrounded by music because her family runs a music management business. Although her mother was against the idea of her getting into music as a career, she was greatly inspired by her father who taught her all about music from a young age.
This passion for music carried on until her college days, where she created mixtapes for the local channel, “MTV.” She used this experience as her stepping stone towards a two-month European Tour with the Ateneo College Glee Club, making use of her first toy - the Tascam US-122. Since then, she has performed in various countries across Europe, Asia, and America. She has also performed as a soloist in international choral festivals such as the prestigious biennial Polyfollia in France and the renowned Three in Singapore, Japan, and the Philippines.
While representing the country in some international choral competitions, her choir reaped awards such as the Polyphony Category at the 38th Tolosa Festival in Spain (ACS), and the 2006 Internationaler Chorwettbewerb in Milterberg, Germany (ACGC).
Jett has also continued to sing for various Philippine scores and TV specials such as Mulawin: The Movie, Batanes, and Maging Akin Muli. Gifted with her sensitivity to intonation and vocal prowess, she has also lent her voice to various albums produced by the Jesuit Music Ministry. In 2009, she decided to move to the US to serve as the choral conductor of the Filipino choir for the ‘Boston Pinoy’ masses.
Four years later, Jett joined The Mastering Lab family as the sole right-hand woman to pioneer mastering engineer and Grammy Technical Achievement awardee Doug Sax. Under the invaluable mentorship of the late Sax, Jett burgeoned to become the newest mastering engineer in The Mastering Lab roster. Outside of mastering, however, Jett is a contributing writer to Soundgirls, an organization for women working in the audio engineering field, led by veteran live sound engineer Karrie Keyes (Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers).
Now, Jett is a successful lyric soprano who pursues and specializes in contemporary a cappella and choral ensemble music. Her latest credits include vocals for pop rock band Basic Vacation (produced by Grammy winner David Kahne), and vocal coaching work for artists Sam London and Hypnotiq Girls in Avatar Studios.
One of her most recent achievements is taking part in a series of Mentoring Sessions presented by SoundGirls.org, which features a number of female leaders in professional audio and beyond; this took place on January 19 of this year. The following day, January 20, Galindo also became a member of the panel “Opportunities for Women in Media Technology,” part of the convention’s TEC Track Sessions, which took place in the TEC Lab (202 B). This panel, moderated by Jessica Naziri -- a tech journalist and writer (CNN, CNBC and L.A. Times), video host, content strategist, and entrepreneur -- focused on the challenges that women in the audio industry face everyday and how the session’s panelists have remained true to themselves, all the while keeping their eye on achieving their goals and success.
To add to her already many achievements, she and her colleague Eric Boulanger mastered both the Original Soundtrack album and the score album for all formats, including vinyl for the multi-award winning movie, La La Land.
Jett Galindo truly is a testament to what hard work could do, and where perseverance could lead you. She embodies finding what you love, and not letting dreams remain dreams.
